Is it safe to buy a refurbished mobility scooter?

Accepted Answer

Yes, when the refurbishment is honest. Every ElectricGlide machine is stripped down and put through a 72-point workshop check: motors, transaxle, wiring loom, joystick or tiller, brakes, bearings, tyres, seat mechanism and battery capacity. We replace anything below spec, then road test it. You receive a written job card listing every part that was replaced, and a 12-month workshop warranty.

What is the difference between Refurbished, Pre-Owned and Ex-Demo?

Accepted Answer

Refurbished means we fully stripped, serviced and repaired the machine and replaced worn parts, it is mechanically restored and comes with our 12-month warranty. Pre-Owned means it is a sound used machine with honest cosmetic wear that passed the same 72-point check, also with a 12-month warranty. Ex-Demo units were our own showroom displays: low kilometres, near-new condition, usually the best value on the site.

Do you deliver, and how long does delivery take?

Yes, we deliver nationwide. Gauteng is 1-2 business days with our own crew who set the machine up and give you a short driving lesson. Major centres take 2-4 business days and outlying areas 3-6 business days by freight. Delivery is free on orders over R7 500, otherwise from R450, and you can always collect free from our Kempton Park showroom.

Can I drive my scooter to the shops and on pavements?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Class 2 and 3 scooters we sell are legal on pavements, in shopping centres and on most estate roads at walking pace. South African law prohibits them on public roads with a speed limit above 60 km/h, so plan your route using pavements and crossings. We include a route-planning guide with every delivery.

How long does a battery pack last before it needs replacing?

Accepted Answer

A well-cared-for AGM pack lasts 2-3 years, and lithium packs typically 4-5 years. Keep a scooter on a float-mode charger (our SmartCharge 8A does this), avoid leaving it flat for weeks, and avoid charging in extreme heat. We capacity test batteries free for existing customers and a new matched pair starts at R3 290.

Do you accept medical aid claims?

Accepted Answer

Many South African medical schemes reimburse mobility equipment from the day-to-day or savings benefit, and some cover it from the prescribed minimum benefits when a doctor motivates it. We issue a fully compliant VAT invoice in the patient's name with the device code, serial number and ICD-10-ready motivation template.

Question 7

What is your return policy on second-hand machines?

Accepted Answer

You have 30 days from delivery to return any machine for a refund, for any reason, with no restocking fee. We arrange the collection. The machine must come back in the condition it was delivered and undamaged by misuse. Refunds are paid within 5 business days of the machine arriving back and being inspected.

Can I come and test the machines before I buy?

We would love that. Our Kempton Park showroom has demo units of every type, scooters, power chairs, manual and paediatric, indoors and on a paved test route with a ramp and kerb. Book a free 45-minute fitting session and a technician will set seat height, armrest width and joystick sensitivity with you.

Will you take my old wheelchair or scooter as a trade-in?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Send us three photos and a description on WhatsApp and we will quote a trade-in value within one working day. We collect free in Gauteng, and we refurbish and donate safe machines that are not resellable to partner care facilities.

Do you service and repair machines you did not sell?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Our workshop services all major brands, including those bought elsewhere or imported. Standard service from R850, battery replacement while you wait, and we keep a large stock of common spare parts. We collect and return within Gauteng for a flat R350.

Question 11

How heavy are these machines and will they fit in my car?

Accepted Answer

Travel scooters fold to about 27 kg and split so the heaviest piece is 14 kg. Our ultralight wheelchair is 9 kg. Full-size scooters and power chairs are 76-138 kg and need a hoist, a trailer or our delivery service. Every listing states the weight and the folded dimensions so you can compare against your boot.

Refurbished and pre-owned machines carry a 12-month ElectricGlide Workshop Warranty covering motors, transaxle, controller, joystick, looms, charger, bearings, brakes, frame welds and seat mechanisms. New products carry 12-24 month manufacturer warranties. Batteries on refurbished units carry a 6-month capacity warranty. Wear items like tyres, upholstery and fuses are excluded.
